Skincare is extremely vital. You can’t get new skin. Keep yours healthy, clean and fresh by starting as soon as possible and never forgetting your regime.
Everyone’s skin is different. You may be oily, dry or combination. You may have acne or pigmentation. You may have super sensitive skin. Whatever it may be, these are basic textbook tips for everyone – male or female.
Always wear SPF
When it’s 2 degrees or 30 degrees, wear sun cream. SPF is important as there is always rays of the Sun! Protect your skin 365, 24/7 by creating a barrier between it and the Sun.
Hack: Use children’s sun protect as they have a higher SPF, equalling more protection!
Exfoliate at least once a week
Whether it’s your face or body, exfoliating is extremely important. You can never really tell how much dirt is picked up by your skin until you scrub away all of it.
Face wash with exfoliating beads is a good purchase. I normally apply it in the shower so the steam helps to open up my pores and allows for a better clean.
Opting for an exfoliating mitt or shower puff is also a good idea to clean your body in the shower. You’ll get deeper into the skin and get the tiny bits of accumulated dirt out; leaving you feeling smoother and cleaner.
Do a facemask after you shower
The optimum time to do a facemask is after you come out of the shower. The steam will open your pores and again, help to the mask to clean and brighten your skin.
Reminder: Look for a facemask for your skin type and make sure you are buying one with the right purpose for you e.g. brightening, anti-ageing etc.
Wash your face after the gym
The gym is a place you definitely build up quite a sweat. It is important to scrub your face clean immediately afterwards before the sweat dries to your face and clogs up your skin.
If you can’t straight away, maybe put some facial cleansing wipes into your gym bag and use those in the meantime, before having a wash later.
Moisturise more in the winter
The winter months are notorious, almost as much as B.I.G, for causing dry skin. Moisturising more will decrease your risk of cracked and hardened skin. Try using cream in the morning AND the evening for double protection and remember to moisturise your body as well as your face.
Reminder: Don’t forget to apply extra lip balm on for kiss-ready lips.
Prime before make-up
Priming is a great way to keep your make-up on and in it’s rightful place but, it also acts as a barrier between the skin and cosmetics.
Using primer more will increase the health of your skin – keeping it supple and soft despite the usage of make-up. Even a thin layer can make the world of difference!
Use eye cream
A tip I recently learnt from Mandy (Aphrodites MUA) was that we should use eye cream from a young age to prevent bagged eyes. The earlier you start, the less likely you are to have problems in the future.
Eye cream also aids the skin to stay tighter and firm, rather than sagging in all the wrong ways. Looking after your eyes will keep you forever young.
Drink lots of water
*Chanting* Down it, down it, down it!
Water pretty much solves everything. I’m the first to admit that I don’t drink as much as I should but, when I do – the effects are amazing. Water hydrates the skin keeping it plump, never dry and adds a nice flush of colour.
Do you really need to wear makeup today?
This is a question I ask myself every day before putting at least eyeliner on.
Make-up is not the best thing for your skin. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of products say they infuse skincare into them but, that’s still questionable.
Wearing cosmetics when you don’t need to is unnecessary, harmful to your skin and wasteful of product! Think before you apply!
Feed your skin
Healthy food, healthy mind, healthy skin! Greasy, oily and sugary food can cause major breakouts and all kinds of trouble for your skin.
Stick to healthier foods for better nutrients in your body. Not only helping your skin but your health in general.
