Icy, Icy Iceland

June 8, 2017

Earlier this year - January 2017 - I was lucky enough to visit the beautiful Reykjavik in Iceland with my Mum and sister, Annisa for 4 days.

It was a spontaneous trip after procrastinating on the thought, we booked it and off we went (after a big thermal shopping spree in Primark).

We stayed pretty central and just behind the Hallgrímskirkja church!

The whole trip was pretty condensed into our 4 days there. It involved long nights and very early mornings.

One of our main goals was to see the Northern Lights, of course. We went on a bus tour with a local excursions company, Reykjavik Excursions, on our first night and unfortunately didn’t get to see the world wonder.

So, we decided to go back the next evening and we managed to see them after a long search and some very cold winds! It is quite hard to see Aurora Borealis (a.k.a. the Northern Lights) from the naked eye but, with the right camera settings, you can see it perfectly! The feeling was something like no other.

On the second day, we did a half Golden Circle Tour alongside Snowmobiling! Seeing the beauty of Iceland is a must-see for anyone that hasn’t. The glaciers look like a photograph and the small far out towns are so quaint and different compared to the busy U.K.

Snowmobiling was quite an experience and probably my one of my favourite moments of my life. As I tend to be a scared-y cat, I let my sister drive the whole time and sat behind her taking in the views! The only downside was how cold my toes were! Next time, I would definitely double up on socks.

We also took our final evening to go to the Blue Lagoon! Lagoon’s always have such mystical and dreamy connotations to me and Iceland did not disappoint. The hot springs were relaxing, magical and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. There’s even a bar and a facial spa in the water! Heaven!

The sights of Iceland were stunning, the cold was completely worth it and the people were absolutely lovely. I’ve been blessed with trips to beautiful places and Iceland is up there in my top 3 faves. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to go and suggest you wrap up warm in their winter months!
